Bodywork with Kelly offers combinations of Structural (traditional) Osteopathy, Cranial Osteopathy and Massage. These techniques and approaches are applied through a body-mind connection perspective. Both aspects are considered as key gateways to optimising healing.
Osteopathy is a form of bodywork which uses traditional joint and muscles manipulation techniques, fascial manipulation. soft tissue release and traditional massage techniques.
Your first 1 hour Bodywork consultation with Kelly is key to gathering all of the necessary information to make an accurate diagnosis before identifying a suitable course of treatment. She’ll begin with a thorough case history, where you’ll have ample opportunity to discuss the details surrounding the onset and history of your condition. Once the main contributing factors have been identified, Kelly will move directly into physical examination, before establishing a working diagnosis and initiating treatment.
The examination will typically begin with a standing examination, followed by passive and active movement assessments. Orthopaedic, neurological and postural assessments may be conducted before the start of your treatment. A uniquely tailored combination of Structural and Cranial Sacral Techniques will be used in accordance with your needs and personal preferences.
Exercises, advice, follow up visits and treatment frequency will be discussed towards the end of your first visit, and time allowed for any questions that you may have. Treatment consultations will often vary from individual to another. Occasionally, it may be necessary to refer you back to your GP (or other primary care professional) for further clinical investigations such as x-rays, MRI, and other tests.
Cranial Osteopathic Approach
A Highly Specialised techniques used to make subtle adjustments to the soft tissue network of the body. A gentle ‘hands on’ Osteopathic approach used to encourage the release of stresses, strains and tensions throughout the body. This subtle approach is suitable for children at all stages of development. Kelly aims to treat the person as a whole, rather than just the symptoms by working with the body’s self-healing mechanism.
It is used as a discipline all on its own or in tandem with traditional structural Osteopathic techniques. It offers a Gentle yet effective approach, enabling her to gently palpate various areas of the body, including the spine, tailbone and head to assess the condition and nature of the relationships between an the functioning parts. Although the cranial sacral approach appears to differ significantly from the more well known structural techniques, the aims and principles of treatment remain the same.
Kelly is highly experienced in detecting subtle changes in the body’s ‘Cranial Rhythm’ and ‘Involuntary Mechanism’, caused by disturbances to the body’s natural balance. This Highly Developed Sense Of Touch enables her to pick up areas of tension, imbalance and dysfunction within the muscular-skeletal framework, where subtle adjustments are used to release deep patterns of stress and strain within the body.
It’s a gentle yet extremely effective approach that may be used in a wide range of conditions for people of all ages, from birth to old age. The ‘Lightness Of Touch’ is a factor which sets this treatment technique apart from a more traditional (or structural) Osteopathic approach that is typically much physically dynamic in its method. Due to its gentle application, Cranial Osteopathy has become popularised (and heavily associated) with the Treatment of Babies, Infants and Young Children. However, its use is an effective treatment modality for people of all ages.
‘I have been a therapist for over 25 years now and still really enjoy helping people to release tension, stress and pain — it’s extremely rewarding. I also value empowering others with the necessary tools and understanding to create improvements to their own health and wellbeing. Essentially, I help people to achieve physical ease and emotional wellbeing …naturally.
Are you in need of an integrated MindBody approach?’
Living tissues will always express a systemic pattern of movement that is unique to our experiences and disposition. This is an Involuntary Mechanism of movement carried through the organs, tissues and Membranous System of the entire body. This membranous (or connective) tissue forms a thin yet strong interconnected covering over the body’s organs, muscles, tendons, bones and joints. The membranous system synchronises all of the body’s respective parts through its extensive linking and reciprocal flow of motion. Physical stresses, strain and tension can interfere with the fluidity and ease of this movement expression, most of which can be palpated or felt by the practitioner.
Kelly will observe, palpate and treat a wide range of complaints (using a highly specialised touch), releasing areas of restriction, block, tension, congestion and strain, to reinstate optimum conditions for health and wellbeing. They are able to pick up on subtle changes in shape, tension, stress and strain reflected through this subtle involuntary expression anywhere on the body. The typical cranial and sacral (top and tail) contact points are often the preferred start point. Their centralised location, relationship to the 26 cranial bones, spinal column and direct connection to a large amount of the body’s soft tissues are a major vantage point.
The BodyMind Approach
It’s generally not considered a good idea to ignore pain, discomfort, unexplained limitations to movement or other sudden physical changes! When your body begins to express physical symptoms or changes, it is attempting to communicate a change to your health and wellbeing (which may be of real significance further down the line!). Ignoring symptoms may lead you to experience more chronic (and potentially more difficult to treat) pain and other symptoms. In other words ‘body talk‘ by way of physical symptoms are your body’s way of telling you that your optimum state of balance has shifted in some way.
Often the nature of the onset of symptoms or ‘back story’ can provide lots of really valuable information which points towards why you might be suffering in the first place. The physical symptoms may also be highlighting a cause which is more psycho-emotional in nature. The key here is to link the main indicators into your story in a way that resonates as truth. It can be a fascinating process of getting to grips with the bigger picture when we investigate through a MindBody approach. It always useful to consider what you were doing around the time of onset? How we’re you feeling? What might have been worrying you?
As with most conditions, early diagnosis is crucial to promptly restoring your underlying health status back to its ideal state, as well as an important step towards avoiding more serious developments. Early intervention can also significantly reduce the long term use (and reliance) on anti-inflammatory and painkilling medications. This is where initiating early and effect pain relief becomes crucial.
Interferences to your health can sometimes take time to recover – particularly when symptom have become more chronic! However, chronic states of poor health are not always easily avoided, but fortunately, taking a holistic approach to your current condition can be a game changer in achieving a desirable outcome.
Treatment sessions with Kelly will align with a holistic care approach. This may include anything from advice and support in understanding the bigger picture and the emotional narrative behind your symptoms, possible lifestyle changes, ergonomic advice, helpful exercise approaches, use of ice and heat to encourage more rapid healing, postural assessment and care, stress management, overcoming self limiting habits/behaviours, and meditation, creating healthful goals to optimise your wellbeing.

What Clients Say…
“Kelly McKay is simply the best Osteopath I’ve ever seen. She’s more than that, she’s a wonderful healer and life coach. Her calming energy means I always walk away feeling more positive about life. She’s incredibly wise, and she helps my body to rebalance and reduces my pain. An angel on earth.”
Justine. J (Makeup Artist)
“I came to Kelly in the first place with neck pain and a very stiff upper back, thinking that alignment or posture and constant guitar playing could be the reason.
Kelly immediately pointed out how I was holding tension in my body also due to my mind pattern (of constantly being on the go, being stuck in my head and really high stress levels).
As we started to address this together, it slowly started to shift. Kelly is phenomenal at spotting the ‘trouble areas’. She is very intuitive and I always walk out feeling calm and motivated to keep going on my journey to become more balanced.
I highly recommend Kelly for mind, body and soul.“
Malin. A (Musician)
“I had my first treatment with Kelly more than 10 years ago when I was a school teacher and she has supported my physical and emotional health ever since. Now, as a therapist myself, I appreciate how much her wisdom and compassion also work to facilitate the healing of mind and body. Kelly is an awesome practitioner.”
